Types of Benefits Offered by Injury Benefit Programs

1. Medical Benefits

This is the most important benefit that is offered by injury benefit programs, such as the workers’ compensation scheme. When a worker is injured at the workplace, they are required to report the incident as soon as possible, but within 30 days. After reporting the incident, the employer will file a claim with the insurance provider or state. If approved, all medical bills related to the work-related injuries will be covered by the insurer. Any pre-existing condition, however, will not be covered. For instance, if you suffer serious head injuries, the insurer will pay for all surgical procedures and medical treatments. However, any tumor and other head problems will not be covered.

2. Disability Benefits

In case you have suffered serious injuries at the workplace, you will have to stay at the hospital ward or at home for several weeks or months to recover from the injuries. This means that you will not be able to earn a living. Fortunately, most injury benefit programs offer disability benefits. Temporary disability benefits, which are usually paid out at the rate of 70% of the weekly wages earned before the injuries.

In case you are disabled as a result of the work-related accident, you will get permanent disability benefits for the rest of your life.

3. Death and Burial Benefits

There is always a chance that you may succumb to your injuries. In case there is a fatality occasioned by the work-related injury, most injury benefit programs usually pay out death and burial benefits. Death benefits are usually paid out to the spouse, children or parents of the deceased. After the burial, a refund will be issued to reimburse the family for the burial expense.
